Chapter 13 - Just One Puff

"Just one puff" is a myth you must remove from your mind:

  • It's just one puff that gets us hooked in the first place.

  • It's just one puff during a quit attempt that defeats our progress.

  • It's just one puff after succeeding in quitting that restarts the addiction.

That "one puff" has horrible aftereffects yet tricks you into thinking you won't get re-addicted. But you already are. You feel miserable and guilty but still gave into temptation.

The fantasy of "one special smoke" prevents quitting - like after a hard day when you tell yourself you "deserve" it. There's no such thing as just one puff. It sparks the lifelong chain reaction again. This myth causes constant temptation.

See marijuana not as a special treat but as sentencing yourself to a filthy lifetime of slavery, hopelessness and destroying your health. Is a fleeting high worth sacrificing your potential and happiness? Of course not.

It's okay to not have concrete plans for every moment. Addiction fills the void with illusion. Good and bad times happen regardless of marijuana. Keep clearly in mind - marijuana is NEVER the answer. The choice is lifetime misery or freedom.

You wouldn't take cyanide just because it tastes like almonds. So stop punishing yourself by falling for the "just one" lie. If given the chance, no user would go back and choose to get hooked. Yet you have that option every day.

Fear prevents choosing freedom - fear you can't function or cope without marijuana. But you easily can - it's ridiculously easy when you understand:

  1. There's nothing to give up, only huge gains by quitting.

  2. The "just one" session is fiction - it's lifetime slavery.

  3. You're no different - any addict can quit easily.

The nature of addiction makes you feel hooked for life or that you have an "addictive personality." In truth, no one is born needing to smoke. The substance hooks you, not your character. This victim mentality holds you back from freedom.
